ABOUT / who we are

Our History

A Passion becomes an enterprise.

Tea Embassy began with a family that had a vision to see the best teas represented from all over the world in one place. A vision where young and old, male and female, black and white, citizen and foreigner all come together around tea. Before this vision emerged, Carol Sims was enjoying her lifelong tea affair and decided to start a tea business in 2001. Her first products were her cookbook, Tea Treasures and More, fine bone china Chatsford teapots from England, several tea accoutrements, and about five loose leaf teas. After seeing the tiny business grow in her home, she and her son Jonathan teamed up to redesign the website, teatreasures.com, and begin looking for a storefront. One year later, 2004, the Sims found an old home in the historical district of downtown Austin, birthplace of the Tea Embassy.

Tea bridges cultures. Tea offers thousands of varieties and all comes from one plant. Tea calms the soul and lifts the spirit.
